How to Submit
  Poetry

Our reading period is currently closed.

No Tell Motel has two reading periods, one during the month of May
and the second during October. Those are the ONLY months we accept
unsolicited submissions.

Poems by poets young and not so young, broadly published and obscure will be
considered. Any subject or style is acceptable.

Send no less than 5 poems and no more than 8. Poetry will be featured
on a daily basis throughout the week. Exceptions may be made for long pieces.

Send submissions to submit(at)notellmotel.org. (Replace the "(at)" with @).
Put "(YOUR LAST NAME )_submission" in the subject line. We only accept
submissions via e-mail.

Cut and paste your poems into the body of the e-mail message. Do not send
attached files.
Poets requiring special formatting should query for instructions first.

Include a brief bio.

We do not consider previously published work.*

Simultaneous submissions are acceptable only if we are informed immediately if your
work is accepted elsewhere.

We strive to respond to all submissions in a timely manner. Expect response time to be
between 2 - 8 weeks. Do not inquire on the status of your submission until after the 8th
week.

No Tell Motel will consider poems from a poet no more than once every 4 months.

We do not consider fiction, nonfiction, reviews, photography or essays.

We are selective. We receive many submissions and are only able to use a small
percentage (around 5%).

We do not offer critques or feedback on submissions.

No Tell Motel poets must always, always be discreet.

* We do not classify poems appearing on author blogs or personal websites as
previously published. Nor do we classify poems posted by the author to newsgroups
or online workshops as previously published. We do classify poems appearing in
online or print magazines as previously published. If you are unsure about the publication
standing of a particular poem, please query before submitting.

By accepting No Tell Motel's offer to publish your poems, you agree to acknowledge
No Tell Motel as first publisher in future reprints of those poems (books,
anthologies, etc.).

Despite our playful nature, we truly are quite firm on our submission guidelines.
We expect anyone who submits work to be familiar with them. Submisssions sent
with unapproved attached files, fewer than five poems, multiple submissions within
a four month window, etc. are automatically rejected -- with no explanation, no
exception.
