love poem 469

Nicholas Manning

why
do you * avoid
my eyes ? their lies
are the only lure
of * lights
liable
to alight you
on rawer rhapsodes' rocks . . . but
here lately lapsed by our
mutual leurres *
never
leaving and thus
never * laced : lapping though
a lid's lakes shyest shores
in * sheaves of lashes'
masquerading
loam
blackly * in strings
bursting beamed outwards
the still centre * of this endless
explosion in an initial * singularity !
of an intricate inner universe
now unspeakably up
-turned * to
me
