A Waltz Dream

David Dodd Lee

       (an Ashbery Erasure poem)

She was a strange fault
thought for every minor upheaval

It may have been the praying,
white lake like a photograph

of plasma

a man shits a cookie cutter

a steamroller lops off nine busboys

in my own dream
I square the imaginary hinge we were meant to oil

mother is mindful of rain
in the mixed drinks

girls like lemonade
