About the Poems
by J. P. Dancing Bear
"Everyone has a Rime of the Ancient Mariner in Them" and "Tigers" are two poems from what I refer to as “The Birthday Poems” which is a long series (so far about 800 poems) written to friends and acquaintances and most of the poems in the series makes reference to other artworks (paintings, plays, movies, books, poems, songs, sculptures, etc, etc).
"Hammer Myths," "Earthed" and "Dark Pharmacy" are part of my manuscript Tethers in which all the poems draw inspiration from a single line from another living poet’s work. I set myself some additional rules to follow when writing this series: the line used cannot be a beginning or ending line; the line must be used as a starting line in my poems; the new poem should try to stray from any original meaning or purpose of the originating poem’s; the line must appear as it appears in the originating poem without any change to punctuation.
